Local Government

I work alongside councils to help make sense of tourism’s role in their communities and how it connects across council activity.

Tourism touches infrastructure, land use, housing, environment, economic development and community wellbeing. When integrated deliberately, it strengthens resident quality of life and local identity.

How I can help

  • Clarifying Council’s Role in Tourism

Helping councils understand where tourism fits, what their role is, and how they can lead with confidence.

  • Aligning Tourism with Council Plans

Working through how tourism connects with Long Term Plans, spatial strategies and infrastructure decisions so it’s not treated in isolation.

  • Strengthening Governance and Internal Alignment

Supporting clearer roles, better cross-council collaboration and stronger oversight of tourism-related decisions.

  • Supporting Smarter Investment Decisions

Providing practical frameworks and advice to ensure tourism investment reflects community priorities and delivers shared value.

When tourism is shaped intentionally, it enhances liveability, local pride and long-term prosperity.

CASE STUDY: Building council-wide understanding of tourism

Working with a district council, I designed and facilitated cross-council workshops on tourism and destination stewardship.

The process shifted internal perceptions of tourism from “promotions and events” to a whole-of-council responsibility.

It identified cross-council collaboration opportunities and clarified shared priorities to support the sustainable growth of tourism in their district.
